The Misericordia University softball team clinched the top seed in the MAC Freedom Championships with a 12-6, 14-7 sweep at Arcadia, Sunday.
 
Gianna Russo had two hits and three RBI in the opener and Mackenzie Fizer scored three runs and had two RBI.
 
Gabby Cruz went four innings to earn the win and Morgan Kelly struck out four batters in three innings to get a save.
 
The Cougars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the second on a bases loaded walk to Kaliana Auchey and back-to-back sacrifice flies by Bridget Doherty and Kiersten Tinio.
 
MU took an 8-2 lead with five runs in the fourth.
 
Rylie Nasso was hit by pitch to open the inning and Alicia Moran walked.  Tinio drew a two-out walk to load the bases and Fizer drove in two runs with a single to left field. 
 
Casey Funesti followed with an RBI single Tinio came home on a throwing error on the play.  Russo singled to left to drive in a run and another run scored on an error on the play.
 
Nasso drove in a run on a single in the sixth and Moran made it 10-6 with a sacrifice fly.
 
The Cougars tacked on two more runs in the seventh on Russo's two-out, two-run single up the middle.
 
Misericordia jumped out to a 14-0 through 2-1/2 innings in the nightcap.
 
Doherty had four hits and two RBI and Nasso had three hits and three RBI.  Tinio had two hits and two RBI and Auchey drove in two runs.
 
Grace Hastings allowed just one earned run in two innings to get the win and Juleigh Bowmaster tossed three shutout innings to get the save.
 
Doherty, Tinio and Fizer singled to open the game and Nasso capped the four-run inning with a two-run single up the middle.
Doherty had two hits in the second inning and Tinio and Auchey both drove in two runs as the Cougars added seven runs in the frame.
 
Doherty drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and Mikayla Sasuk and Stephanie Barone had RBI-singles as the Cougars extended their lead to 14-0 in the third.
