NCAA Game 5

Johns Hopkins erupted for 13 runs over the final two innings en route to a 15-2 win over Penn State Harrisburg in an elimination game at NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, Thursday at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.

After PSU-Harrisburg tied the score with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Blue Jays answered with five runs in the top of the eighth and tacked on eight more in the top of the ninth.

Adam Weiner had three hits and three RBI for the Blue Jays and Chris Casey had three hits and drove in two runs.

Kyle Neverman had three hits and Ryan Zakszeski, Chris Wilhelm and Mike Denlinger all had two hits for Johns Hopkins.

Justin Drechsel improved to 6-0 with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief of Jacob Enterlin who struck out seven over 6.1 innings.

Travis Crammer had a two-run single to lead Penn State Harrisburg and Brian Balshy and John Cataldo both added hits.

Will Chaney scattered eight hits over 7.1 innings while absorbing the loss.

Johns Hopkins used a two-out rally to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the second.  Neverman reached on a bunt single and moved up Mike Kanen’s single.  Casey and Weiner both followed with RBI-singles.

The Lions tied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh.  Cataldo reached via hit by pitch and Cole Nye walked.  After a pitching change and a sacrifice bunt, Crammer singled to left to tie the score, 2-2.

Johns Hopkins regained the lead in the eighth when Denlinger ripped his first home run of the season to right field.
Neverman  tripled and scored on a passed ball to make it 4-2.

Weiner had an RBI single and Colin McCarthy’s sacrifice fly stretched the lead to 6-2.  Zakszeski capped off the five-run rally with an RBI-double.

The Blue Jays scored eight runs before the first out was recorded in the ninth inning highlighted by Craig Holzer’s two-run single and an RBI-double by Jeff Lynch.

Johns Hopkins improved to 37-9 and will the Ramapo/Keystone loser in an elimination game, Friday at 1:15.  Penn State Harrisburg’s season ends at 26-16.
