NCAA Game 8

Keystone advanced to the winner’s bracket final of the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Baseball Championships with a 4-2 win over Ramapo, Thursday evening.

Rick McLaughlin had three hits and drove in a run for the Giants while Tyler Gurman added three hits.  Kevin Catherina had two hits.

Mike Pembleton worked five innings to improve to 7-0 with three innings of relief help from Zach Duffy before Justin Martin came on in the ninth to earn his second save.

Zach Carroll led the Roadrunners with two hits while Joe Venturino, Anthony Vinci and Dave Jacob all added a hit.

Keystone, 35-8, will face Kean in the winner’s bracket final, Friday at 4:30 while Ramapo, 29-15-1, will play an elimination game versus Johns Hopkins at 1:15.

Keystone broke a scoreless deadlock with a run in the top of fourth.

Ricky Riscica was hit by a pitch with one out and to third on Rick McLaughlin’s single through the right side.  Riscica came home when Ramapo second baseman Anthony Vinci made a diving stop to his left to rob Lymbel Guerrero of a hit.

Keystone added three runs in the fifth.  Kevin Catherina drew a leadoff walk and went to third no Tyler Gurman’s double down the left field line.

Ramapo got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.  Anthony Vinci Singled down the left field line and raced to second when the ball was mishandled in the outfield.  After Dave Jacob was hit by and Vinci moved to third on a wild pitch.
Christian Spurr and Brandon Berger both followed with fielder’s choice groundouts to cut the deficit in half.
