NCAA Game 9
Will Minderjahn tossed a four-hit shutout to keep the Misericordia University baseball team alive at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with a 6-0 win over Alvernia, Friday morning at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.
Minderjahn had two strikeouts and allowed four walks while improving to 6-0.
Misericordia extended its school record for wins in a season to 38-10 and will play the Johns Hopkins/Ramapo, Friday at 7:45.
Alvernia ends it season at 34-11.
Julian Faria led MU with two hits and two RBI while Kyle Lindsay and Joe Tagliarini both added a pair of hits.
Chris Gehris had two of Alvernia’s four hits.
Misericordia took a 4-0 lead as they sent eight men to the plate in the bottom of the first inning. Kyle Lindsay drew a leadoff walk and went around to third on Andrew Tressa’s single to left center. Kenny Durling flicked an RBI-single through the left side and stole second before Julian Faria bounced a two-run single over the third base bag to make it 3-0.
The Cougars used a two-out rally to stretch the lead to 6-0 in the fourth. Lindsay dropped a soft liner in right field and stole second. After a Tressa walk, Steve Sulcoski brought Lindsay home with a single to left center and Tressa came home on the back end of a double steal.
Alvernia got two runners on in the sixth when Chris Ray singled to center and Leon Stimpson drew a two-out walk, but Minderjahn got a fly to center to end the inning.
Minderjahn escaped another jam in the seventh as the Crusaders had runners on second and third with nobody out. Chris Gehris lined a leadoff single to center and raced to third on Cody Younker’s double down the left field line. Minderjahn got a fly out to short right, a strikeout and pop up to shortstop to end the threat.
