Ramapo stayed alive in the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Baseball Championships with a 3-1 win over Johns Hopkins, Friday afternoon at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.
Christin Spurr had three hits for the Roadrunners, including the 222nd of his career to tie the all-time school record at Ramapo.
John Capuano added two hits and Anthony Vinci and Spurr both drove in runs.
Frank Baldini scattered six hits while striking out three to earn the complete game win.
For Johns Hopkins, Ryan Zakszeski had a hit and scored a run and Kyle Neverman had a hit and an RBI.
Carter Burns suffered his first loss of the season while striking out nine and allowing just seven hits over nine innings.
Ramapo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when John Capuano drew a one-out and stole second. After a fly out, Anthony Vinci singled to center to score Capuano.
Spurr led off the fourth for Ramapo with a double down the left field line and scored on a throwing error on Brandon Berger’s bunt single.
Johns Hopkins cut the deficit in half in the fourth. Ryan Zakszeski led off with a single down the left line and move to second on Jeff Lynch’s single through the left side. Two outs later, Kyle Neverman singled through the left side on an 0-2 pitch to make it 2-1.
Capuano led off the Ramapo seventh with a bunt single down the third base line. Dave Jacob drew a two-out walk and Spurr tied the Ramapo all-time hits record with a line drive over shortstop for a 3-1 lead.
Johns Hopkins ends the season at 37-10 while Ramapo improves to 30-15-1 and will face Misericordia in an elimination game, Friday at 7:45.
