NCAA Game 12
Pete Doggett tossed a complete game four-hitter and Dylan Mazzo drove in the game-winning run with a pinch-hit single to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 2-1 win over Ramapo in an elimination game at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, Friday at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.
Chris Boroch had two hits for the Cougars and Christian Spurr had two hits for Ramapo to become the Roadrunners’ all-time leader with 224 hits.
After 15 scoreless innings over two games versus Ramapo and trailing 1-0, Misericordia finally broke through with a pair of runs in the seventh inning.
Mike Comerford drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on Chris Boroch’s two-strike sacrifice bunt. Comerford scored the tying run when Kyle Lindsay reached on an infield error.
Lindsay was forced at second on Andrew Tressa’s fielder’s choice and Tressa reached second on an errant throw to first.
Pinch-hitter Dylan Mazzo put the Cougars ahead with a line drive single to left center.
Ramapo took advantage of two Misericordia fielding lapses to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third. After Ryan Rinsky beat out an infield single to deep short despite a diving stop by Ryan Cacchioli, the Roadrunners put down consecutive sacrifice bunts that the Cougars misplayed into a run and left runners on second and third with no outs.
Doggett retired the next three batters to escape the jam without further damage.
Misericordia threatened in the top of the first as Steve Sulcoski and Julian Faria sandwiched two-out walks around Kenny Durling’s hit by pitch to load the bases, but Ramapo starter Walker Larson got a fly out to end the inning.
MU had another scoring chance in the second when Tagliarini was hit by a pitch moved to second when Mike Comerford’s sacrifice bunt was mishandled. Ramapo, however, nailed two consecutive Misericordia base-stealers at third base.
Misericordia improved to 39-10 and will face Keystone in the loser’s bracket final, Saturday at noon. Ramapo ends the season at 30-16-1.
