McDaniel Tops Alvernia in ECAC Semi's
McDaniel College defeated Alvernia University 6-1 in the opening round of the 2014 ECAC South Tournament at Anderson Field in Dallas, PA on Saturday afternoon.
Despite losing the game, Arcadia did strike first in the top half of the first inning. Amanda Turner found the left field line for an RBI single giving the Crusaders a 1-0 advantage heading into the home half of the first.
McDaniel responded with a three-run home half of the first to take a 3-1 lead. Jaclyn Liebowitz roped a two-RBI double down the left line and the Green Terror picked up another run on a throwing error earlier in the inning.
The Green Terror picked up another run in the third on an Emily Sneeringer RBI single. Sneeringer added a two-run homer in the fifth to extend the McDaniel lead to 6-1 in the fifth.
Turner led the Crusaders with two hits and an RBI while Katie Manowski and Shannon Grim added one hit each.
Stephanie Manning led the Green Terror with three hits while Liebowitz drove in three runs and Sneeringer had two RBI.
Caroline Brehm picked up the win in the circle for McDaniel. The right-hander tossed a complete game, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out
McDaniel advances to play Misericordia at 4 p.m. today while Alvernia will play Arcadia at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.
