2014 NCAA Game 10
The Misericordia University baseball team stayed alive with a 1-0 win over Rowan University in an elimination game at the NCAA Baseball Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships, Saturday afternoon at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.
Freshman Tim Burek struck out six allowed just four hits to improve to 6-2 while Ryan Dorosh pitched a perfect ninth to notch his second save.
Misericordia put together a two-out rally to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Kyle Seawards lined a single to center and moved to second on Miles Westrich’s liner back through the middle. Al Reda walked to load the bases and Jeremy DeCotiis was hit by a pitch to force in a run.
Andrew Lysy was the tough-luck loser for Rowan, allowing just five hits over seven innings before departing with an injury.
Casey Grimes and Nick Kreiger both had doubles for the Profs.
Grimes led off the second with a two-bagger to deep right center, but Burek got sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around a fly to center to strand him at second.
Connor Grant led off the Rowan third with a walk, but after a fielder’s choice, Misericordia turned a nifty 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
Misericordia threatened in the bottom half of the inning when DeCotiis drew a lead off walk and moved up on Nick Hair’s single through the right side, but Lysy induced a ground out to end the frame.
After Rowan’s Kevin McMenamin blooped a single to left leading off the seventh, Chris Boroch made a diving stop to his left to get a force at second. Burek induced a fly to right and got a check-swing strikeout for the third out.
With two gone in the eighth, Kreiger grounded a 3-2 pitch inside the first base bag for a double, but Burek got a fly to center on the next batter.
Misericordia, 31-14-1, will face Wesleyan, Saturday at 7:45 while Rowan ends at 33-12.
