Richie Ferguson tossed a four-hitter as Kean defeated Salisbury, 7-1, in game three of the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional, Wednesday evening at PNC Field in Moosic, PA.
Sal Taormina had two hits, including a solo homer, and drove in three runs and Chris Amato had three hits for the Cougars. Ryan Kelley, Andy Lopez and Matt Krupa all added two hits.
Pete Grasso had two hits for Salisbury.
Kean got on the board in the top of the second when Lopez reached on an error and moved to second on Krupa’s single through the left side. Following a sacrifice bunt, Ryan Reitmeyer’s bouncer to second forced in the game’s first run.
Kean added a run in the second on Taormina’s infield single and made it 3-0 in the third on Amato’s single to center.
Salisbury’s lone run came in the bottom of the fourth when Pete Grasso singled, stole second and scored on Tyler Hrycak’s single up the middle.
Kean made it 4-1 when Taormina lined a solo homer over the 371-mark in left center to lead off the seventh.
The Cougars added some insurance in the eighth when Ryan Kelley and Andy Lopez sandwiched RBI-singles around a sac fly by Taormina.
Kean improved to 27-16 and will play the Salve Regina/St. John Fisher winner Thursday at 7:45. Salisbury is 25-11 and will play the SRU/SFC loser in an elimination game, Thursday at 1:15.
