Haverford stayed alive in the The Misericordia University baseball season came to a heartbreaking end with a 7-6 extra-inning loss to Haverford at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, Thursday at PNC Field in Moosic.
Haverford rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth and scored the game-winner on a bloop single inside the right field line with two outs in the bottom of the 10th.
Alec Iurato had two hits and two RBI and Mike Comerford drove in two runs. Chris Boroch and Kyle Lindsay both had two hits.
The Cougars grabbed a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Lindsay drew a walk and moved to second on Iurato’s two-single to left. D.J. Navoczynski walked to load the bases and Comerford laced a two-run single to center.
MU start Cory Vogeli cruised through the first three-plus innings before the Fords struck for four two-out runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Spencer Sohmer singled to center and Sam Partee drilled a two-run homer to left. After a walk to Zach Taylor, Ben Furlong tripled into the right field corner to cut the lead to 4-3. Yannick Villanueva singled back through the box and Thomas Vollaro bounced a single over first base to tie the score.
 Haverford threatened to add to its lead in the fifth when Nick Ott roped a two-out double to the wall in right field. Sam Partee singled to left, but D.J. Navoczynski threw Ott out at the plate to end the inning.
 The Cougars went back in front with four runs in the top of the seventh. Al Reda drew a one-out walk and went to third on Boroch’s hit-and-run single to left. Lindsay beat out an infield single after a diving stop by Sohmer to drive in a run. Kenny Jarema singled through the right side to tie the score, 4-4, and Iurato smacked a two-run double into the left field corner to put MU up, 6-4.
 Garrett Pelko set Haverford down in order in the seventh with Navoczynski making a diving catch to end the frame.
 MU loaded the bases in the top of the ninth but was unable to capitalize.
 Taylor led off the bottom of the ninth with a single to right and moved to third on a wild pitch and Villanueva’s infield single that deflected off Pelko. Matt Goss’ pinch-hit RBI-single to shallow center pulled the Fords with a run, 6-5.
 A mishandled sacrifice bunt loaded the bases and the Fords tied it on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice, but MU nailed the potential winning run at the plate.
 Sohmer lined a single to left to lead off the 10th and moved up on a walk before Furlong blooped s single just inside the right field line.
 George Hatamiya picked up the win with 3.2 innings of relief for Haverford.
 Pelko suffered the loss after striking out six in 4.2 innings of relief. Vogeli started and struck out seven over five innings.
