Alex Doyle blasted a three-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the 12th inning as Penn State-Berks stayed alive at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Baseball Regional with a 5-2 win over Salisbury.
Toby Welk had three hits for the Lions while Luke Erb, Tom Grablewski and Dalton Hughes all had two hits. Zach Reis allowed just one run in 7.2 innings of relief to earn the win.
Jack Barry had two hits and an RBI for Salisbury while Brad Keith also drove in a run.
The Seagulls took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Jake Dmiterchik doubled to left center and eventually scored on Keith’s sacrifice fly.
The Lions tied it in the fifth when Nick Zipay reached via hit by pitch with one out and stole second. He moved to third on a fly to center and scored on Grablewski’s inside-out single to right.
Salisbury went back on top in the next inning when Tyler Hrychak doubled just inside the left field line and scored on Barry’s single to right.
PSU-Berks pulled even in the eighth. McGarvey drew a one-out walk and moved to second on Welk’s single to center. Dalton Hughes served a 3-2 pitch down the left field line to score McGarvey with the tying run.
The Lions will play the Kean/Haverford winner Friday evening.
