The Misericordia University baseball team dropped into the loser's bracket of the MAC Freedom championships with an 8-1 loss to DeSales, Saturday night in West Lawn.
DeSales took a quick 2-0 lead in the first and added three more runs in the second. The Bulldogs added single runs in the fifth, seventh and eighth innings.
The Cougars had 12 hits, but stranded 15 runners on base. Kyle Lindsay's double in the bottom of the third inning tied Kenny Durling's school record of 234 career hits.Â
Mike Comerford had three hits and Miles Westrich had two hits for the Cougars. Brian Eshleman's pinch-hit RBI-single in the bottom of the seventh accounted for MU's lone run.
Cory Vogeli struck out 10 batters while scattering eight hits over six innings. He allowed four earned runs while suffering his first loss of the season. The Cougars will face Manhattanville, Sunday at 1:30 with the winner needing to beat DeSales twice to win the league title.
