Hughes Scores 1,000th

Sinks Game-Winning Free Throw

Amy Hughes scored a game-high 24 points, including the game-winning free throw with one second to play, to help the Misericordia University women's basketball team overcome an 18-point deficit on the way to a 52-51 win at Neumann, Saturday.

Hughes also went over the 1,000 point mark for her career as the Cougars improved to 8-5 overall and 4-1 in the PAC.

Ericka Morrison added 13 points and 10 rebounds and Lacey DeGraw had eight points and nine rebounds.

After jumping out to a quick 11-3 lead in the first five minutes, the Cougars scored just six points the rest of the half and trailed 31-17 at halftime.

Neumann opened the second half with four straight points to take a 35-17 lead with 18:59 to play.

The teams traded baskets before Misericordia went on a 16-0 run to pull within two points, 37-35, with 13:39 remaining.

DeGraw started the rally with a lay-up and Hughes followed with a three-point play.

Following a Vanessa Wright putback, Hughes scored four straight points to make it 37-29.

DeGraw made two consecutive buckets and Morrison's lay-up cut the deficit to 37-35.

Hughes finally pulled MU even, 43-43, with a jumper and put the Cougars up 46-43 with a three-pointer with 5:32 to go.

Neumann battled back to forge a 48-48 tie before Hughes scored three straight points for a 51-48 lead with 2:10 to play.
