The Misericordia University men's basketball team dropped its season opener to Susquehanna, 76-67, in the first round of the White Rose City Classic at York.

Dom Del Prete lead four Cougars in double figures with 20 points, including 10 of 11 from the foul line. Robbie Johnson added 16 points and Ethan Eichhorst added 11 points and seven rebounds in his collegiate debut.

Vinny Baumunk had 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Susquehanna bench outscored MU, 39-5, and the Crusaders closed the game on an 8-2 run in the final minute.

Misericordia built an early 16-7 lead and led throughout much of the first half before Susquehanna rallied for a 33-31 halftime lead.

Trailing 41-40, Eichhorst drilled a three-pointer to give the Cougars their final lead, 43-41, with 15:44 remaining.

After Susquehanna built a 61-53 lead with 7:56 to play, the Cougars used an 8-2 run to get back within two.

Baumunk made a pair of free throws and Johnson made a short jumper to make it 61-57.

After a Susquehanna timeout, Del Prete and Johnson made back-to-back layups to cut the deficit to 63-61 with 4:46 to go.

Misericordia will face York in Sunday's consolation game at 1:00.
