The Misericordia University men's basketball team suffered a 74-64 loss to the Manhattanville Valiants Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Center, despite four players scoring in double digits.
Robbie Johnson led the first half offense with nine points. Five came in a 9-2 run in the game's early goings.
The Cougars remained in control throughout most of the game. They led by as much as eight in the first half and were in command 31-25 at the break.
But with nearly nine minutes left in the second half, the Valiants took their first lead with a 15-3 run. They led 57-47 and never surrendered.
The Cougars looked for a comeback outside the arc. The team sank six three-pointers in the second half.
Jeff Slanovec drained three outsiders over the course of the game.
Andy Smith and
Marcus Little each added a pair.
Johnson finished with a team-best 13 points. Slanovec,
Vinny Baumunk and Little reached double figures with 11, 10 and 10, respectively.
Baumunk and Johnson each added five rebounds.
The team played without co-captain
Dom Del Prete, a loss that was surely felt in an intense, physical match-up.
The Cougars (7-6) travel to Wilkes Wednesday night for an 8:00 p.m. conference game with the Colonels.
