The Misericordia University men's basketball team was edged out by FDU-Florham, 72-71, on a last-second three-pointer Saturday afternoon.
The bright side of the story is the return of forward
Dom Del Prete, who missed the previous two games. Del Prete returned to form and scored 14 points for the Cougars. He also led with 10 rebounds.
The Cougars controlled much of the first half, leading by as many as nine points. They led 35-28 at halftime.
But it took just under two minutes for the Devils' offense to retaliate after the break. The second half was a duel, and the two teams traded leads back and forth.
Down 69-68 with 38 seconds to play, Del Prete nailed a pair of free throws to thrust the Cougars into their final lead of the game, but Devils leading scorer
Adam Katz dropped a three with two seconds on the clock for the win.
Including Del Prete, four Cougars reached double digits.
Vinny Baumunk led with 19 points.
Robbie Johnson scored 12, and
Marcus Little added 11.
The Cougars (7-8, 1-5) host Delaware Valley, Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.
