The Misericordia University men's basketball team kept perfect pace with DeSales Saturday, but the Cougars lost 68-58 to the Bulldogs in overtime.

DeSales took an early lead on an 8-2 run. Later, down 19-14, Jeff Slanovec sank a layup, foul shot and three-pointer. Slanovec's six points led the Cougars in the first half.

The Bulldogs kept leading scorer Vinny Baumunk from scoring anything in the half, and the Cougars headed to halftime down 28-22.

Dom Del Prete took control in the second half, helping the team on all fronts. Down 33-26, Del Prete dropped a pair of layups. Seconds later, he swiped the ball from DeSales' Ed Lapinski and dished it off to Robbie Johnson for an assist. Seconds later, he grabbed one of his six rebounds of the game.

With a second left to play, Baumunk hit a pair of foul shots to knot the game and send it to overtime. The Cougars only points in the extra period came on a Del Prete free throw and a Marcus Little three-pointer; they were outscored 14-4 and lost 68-58.

Del Prete's 19 led the Cougar shooters. Johnson scored 12 and led with three assists. Baumunk was held to a season-low three points.

Del Prete and Little each grabbed six boards, and Del Prete and Marqus Hunter each had a pair of steals.

The Cougars (8-9, 2-6) head to Eastern Monday night and host Alvernia Saturday.
