The Misericordia University men's basketball team dropped its opening game at the Greyhound Starter's Classic to host Moravian, 85-74, Saturday night.
Dom Del Prete led four Cougars in double figures with a game-high 21 points and added a team-high seven rebounds.
Robbie Johnson had 19 points and
Vinny Baumunk and
Marcus Little both added 14 points.
The outcome was determined from behind the arc where Moravian converted 10 attempts and the Cougars were just three of 12.
MU built and early seven-point lead, 14-7, and led throughout most of the first half before the Greyhounds closed the half on an 8-2 run over the final 2:27 to take a 36-32 lead at intermission.
The Cougars opened the second half on a 7-0 spurt and took a 39-36 lead on a pair of free throws by Little.
In a game that featured 10 ties, Johnson sank a jumper to give MU its last lead of the night, 57-56, with 7:56 to play.
After Moravian took a 76-71 lead, Johnson drained another jumper to pull MU within 76-73 with 2:05 remaining.
The Greyhounds converted nine of 10 free throws while closing the game on a 9-1 spurt over the final 1:48.
MU, 6-4, will face Hood College in the consolation game, Sunday at 1:00.
