The Misericordia University men's basketball team hung tough and pulled off a 71-66 win over Alvernia Saturday at the Anderson Center.

 

Vinny Baumunk turned in another high scoring performance with 21 points. Jeff Slanovec and Marcus Little each scored 10 in the win. Little, Dom Del Prete and Andy Smith each passed for three assists.

 

Del Prete and Little led with six rebounds apiece.

 

The Cougars led by as much as 11 points in the first half after a 15-2 run put them up 28-17 with 7:17 to go before break. Little and Smith sank back-to-back three-pointers in the run.

 

The Crusaders used a combination of three three-pointers and three jumpers to get  back in the game at the end of the half. The Cougars led 38-32 at break.

 

In the second half, tensions ran high and the Cougars took advantage of time at the free throw line. They shot 16-for-21 as a team. Baumunk sank 8-of-8.

 

The Cougars (10-9, 4-6) head to King's Wednesday night for an 8:00 p.m. match-up.
