MU Volleyball Drops Tight Match Against Moravian

10/22/2009 10:00:11 PM

The Misericordia volleyball team dropped a hard-fought match to non-league Moravian tonight, falling 25-23, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22.

After losing a tight first game by two points, the Cougars rallied in Game 2. Four straight Moravian attack errors and a Shannon Kane ace gave MU a 5-0 lead that they would never relinquish. Moravian nearly erased a 23-15 deficit but the Cougars were able to squash the comeback attempt.

However, Moravian rallied in the third game. A Kristin Hoffman ace gave the Cougars a 10-8 lead but that was the last they would be on top as the Greyhounds scored six straight points and eventually cruised to a 25-16 win in the most lopsided game of a very even match.

In the final game, another Hoffman ace gave MU the lead at 11-10 but Moravian again surged again. The Cougars fought valiantly to get back into the game and even regained the lead one more time at 22-21, but the Greyhounds won the final four points to close out the match.

Freshman Cailin McCullion had 11 kills and 15 digs for the Cougars. Kane added 18 digs.

Hoffman led Misericordia with 21 assists, followed by Megan Hotaling with 17.

The Cougars fall to 13-9 overall and will face Arcadia and Cedar Crest on Saturday.
