10/26/2009 8:57:54 PM

Krystal Burford put on a show in attacking efficiency and Lisa Holdsworth pulled off a solo block to cap the victory as the Misericordia women's volleyball team defeated Lycoming for the second time this season, 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 21-25, 25-16).

Burford had 15 kills on the night, along with 4 block assists. The sophomore managed this while only recording one attack error and logging a .441 hitting percentage for the match.

Misericordia ensured that two players had a memorable last home match in the Anderson Center. Seniors Jesse Karger and Holdsworth were honored before the start for their contributions to the program over the previous four years.

The Cougars looked well in control midway through Game 3, holding a 2-0 lead in games and a 19-14 lead in the set. But the Warriors ripped off 10 straight points to pull within one, and when Lycoming started out Game 4 with a 3-1 lead, it seemed like momentum may have swung in favor of the visitors.

But MU rallied back, with a block assist from Burford and Holdsworth giving the Cougars a 15-10 lead in Game 4. Burford would add four more kills in the following minutes to help Misericordia pull away. A Shannon Kane service ace pushed the lead to 24-16 before Holdsworth ended it with her block.

In Game 1, MU fell behind early 8-3 but rallied for seven straight points with Megan Hotaling serving. A Burford kill ended the set with the Cougars winning 25-19.

The second game again saw the Cougars fall behind early, this time down as much as seven, but again MU rallied, finally recovering from a 24-23 deficit thanks to three straight Lycoming errors.

Holdsworth finished with six kills and four assists for the match. Karger had 22 receptions and 21 digs.

Freshman Cailin McCullion added 9 kills and 20 digs for the Cougars. Hotaling had 20 assists and Kane contributed 10 kills, 2 service aces and 18 digs.

With the victory, Misericordia improves to 16-9 with two games remaining in the season. The Cougars conclude Freedom Conference play on Wednesday at Wilkes.
