Cougars Drop Home Finale to Wilkes

The Misericordia men's basketball team dropped its home finale 62-57 to Wilkes Tuesday night, ending outside hopes of a playoff berth.

 

Entering Tuesday's game, the Cougars needed back-to-back wins and losses from Alvernia and Delaware Valley to clinch.

 

Robbie Johnson led the Cougars with 18 points in the loss. Andy Smith added nine, and Jeff Slanovec and Vinny Baumunk scored eight each.

 

The Cougars headed to halftime down 28-26 and took an early lead in the second half on back-to-back field goals from Marqus Hunter.

 

The Colonels regained control and led by as much as seven points. The Cougars made it a game in the final minute and got within two points, but the Colonels made their final three free throws in double bonus to capture the 62-57 win.

 

The team honored seniors Baumunk, Hunter and Smith with an on-court ceremony prior to the game. Baumunk will finish in the school's top tens in ten different categories. He ranks first in blocks.

 

The Cougars (11-13, 5-10) close out the season Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Delaware Valley.
