The Misericordia University men's tennis team dropped a conference match to local rivals Kings Saturday, 6-3 and fell to 2-2 (1-1 Freedom).

 

Justin Muthler was the Cougars' only double winner on the day. Muthler defeated Joe Guza (6-0, 6-2) in sixth singles and teamed with Matt Hopkins to defeat Jonathan Ferrie and David Chen (8-3) in third doubles.

 

Frank Nutt topped Povl Schmidt to give the Cougars a win in second singles (6-4, 6-1).

 

Jonathan Hand was a double winner for the Monarchs. He topped the Cougars' Fred Hockenbury in first singles (6-2, 7-5) and teamed with Schmidt to better Nutt and Brett Ford in first doubles (8-1).

 

Blake Bonser and David Kaluzavich were also double winners for the Monarchs. They teamed to defeat the Cougars' Nate Powers and Hockenbury (8-4) in second doubles. Bonser beat Powers in third singles (6-1, 6-0), and Kaluzavich beat Ford in fourth singles (6-3, 6-0).

 

The Cougars travel to Ramapo Sunday for a 1 p.m. nonconference match.
