The Misericordia University men's tennis team topped Alvernia 5-4 in a conference match Thursday to improve to 4-2 (2-1 Freedom).

Matt Hopkins and Justin Muthler teamed for an 8-6 win at third doubles and were double winners for the Cougars.

Fred Hockenbury and Nate Powers added an 8-2 win at second doubles as the Cougars took a 2-1 lead into the singles competition.

Brett Ford won 6-4, 6-1 at third singles and Hopkins (6-1, 6-0) and Muthler (6-2, 6-1) followed with wins at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

The Cougars head to Wilkes Tuesday for a 3:30 match with the Colonels.
