The Misericordia women's tennis team moved to 2-0 in Freedom Conference play this afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Eastern.
The Cougars swept all three doubles matches, with
Abby Searfoss and
Ashley Mangabang winning a tie-breaker at first doubles, 9-8 (7-5).
Maura Haupt and
Courtney Otto (8-1), along with
Jennifer Spott and
Lauren Verret (8-2) both won easily in their doubles contests.
Eastern took two points in singles play, but the Cougars clinched the victory with wins from Haupt (second singles), Verret (fifth) and
Ellyn Wingert (sixth).
The match of the day came in first singles. In by far the longest contest of the competition, Searfoss battled back to grab a tie-breaker victory over Eastern's top player, 4-6, 6-3, (10-5).
MU is now 5-1 on the season, and will face Arcadia on Saturday.
