Despite a furious second half rally, the Misericordia University women's basketball team suffered its first Freedom Conference loss, 68-58, Saturday at Manhattanville.
Christine Marks led the Cougars with 16 points and eight rebounds and
Tyann McDaniel added 13 points.
Jesse Robinson had 12 points, four assists and five steals and
Vanessa Wright added five assists and six steals to go along with her seven points.
Trailing 63-45 with 6:21 to play, the Cougars used a 13-0 run to cut the deficit to five.
Robinson started the spurt with a steal and a layup and Wright fed McDaniel off a steal for a three-pointer.
Courtney Sykes' (eight points) putback and two free throws made it 63-54 with 2:32 to play.
McDaniel followed with a pair of free throws and a Sykes layup made it 63-58 with 1:17 to play.
Manhattanville scored the last five points for the final margin. The Valiants shot nine of 15 from three-point range to improve to 10-4 overall and 5-0 in the Freedom Conference.
MU, 8-6 (4-1) will visit King's, Wednesday at 6:00.
