The Misericordia volleyball team dropped a heartbreaking 3-2 (25-15, 25-23, 19-25, 23-25, 14-16) match to Lycoming, Monday night in the Anderson Center.
After grabbing a 2-0 lead, the Cougars lost three straight games to drop to 12-13 on the season.
Krystal Burford led the Cougars with 12 kills while
Cailin McCullion added 10.
Molly Harleman had nine kills and
Lexie Goble and
Kristin Hoffman had eight each.
Shannon Kane had five aces.
The Cougars broke a 6-6 tie in the opener with a a 9-1 run for a 16-7 lead. Harleman had three kills to key the spurt.
Kane had three straight aces to give MU a 13-7 lead in game two. Goble had three kills down the stretch and Burford finished off the game with an emphatic kill for a 25-23 win.
Lycoming broke a 6-6 tie in game three and went on to win 25-19.
The Cougars took a 12-5 lead in game four, but Lycoming rallied to tie, 16-16.
The teams traded points the rest of the way two big from Burford keeping the Cougars in the game, but Lyco pulled out a 25-23 win.
Lyco grabbed a 3-0 lead in the finale, but Burford's kill tied it ant McCullion gave MU a 5-3 lead.
Trailing 12-10, McCullion's kill made it 12-11 and a Lyco error made it 12-12.
Kills by Harleman and LaBrie gave the Cougars a 14-12 lead, but Lyco rattled off four straight points for the win.
MU will host Wilkes in their Freedom Conference finale, Wednesday at 7:00.
