The Misericordia University women's swimming team competed well against national powerhouse Stevens, winning two individual events before ultimately losing by a score of 151-108.
The Cougars gave a valiant effort against the Ducks in the fastest meet ever held at Misericordia. Altogether, 18 Anderson pool records were broken, including nine by the Stevens women.
Senior
Alicia Bryk led a Misericordia sweep in the 100 breast, winning in 1:10.29. Freshman
Beth Karmondy (1:12.87) was second and
Katelyn Nelson (1:13.22) came in third.
Karmondy also won the 200 breast (2:38.60) and took points with a second place finish in the 200 IM (2:38.60).
Stevens (12th in the nation last season) set a staggering nine pool records- in the 200 medley relay (1:57.17), 200 free (
Marissa Douglas, 2:00.84), 200 butterfly (
Sian Pearson, 2:11.75), 50 free (
Laura Barito, 24.44), 100 free (Barito, 53.54), 200 back (
Megan Lisbon, 2:11.06), 500 free (Pearson, 5:13.93), 100 fly (
Louise Moores, 58.91) and 200 free relay (1:39.27).
“This was our best meet of the year so far,” said MU head coach
Jason Morini. “We welcome the challenge of competing against a team as strong as Stevens.”
Misericordia is 1-3 overall and will host Marywood on Tuesday.
