All three seniors on the Misericordia University men's basketball team contributed in their final home game as the Cougars defeated Manhattanville 75-55, Saturday in the Anderson Center.
Dom Del Prete finished with a game-high 20 points.
Marcus Little had 14 points and four assists and
Mark Williams added a game-high five rebounds.
Other MU performers included sophomore
Jeff Slanovec (14 points, three assists) and junior
Robbie Johnson (nine points, five rebounds).
There was the potential of another home game for the Cougars when the day began, but Eastern's victory over Delaware Valley means that MU (15-10, 9-5) will go on the road to face the Eagles in the Freedom Conference semifinals, Wednesday night.
Up three at the break, Misericordia opened the second half with threes from Slanovec and Del Prete, both assisted by Little.
When Del Prete and Williams each picked up their third fouls, freshman
Sean Bieski came in and scored on the next two possessions, giving MU a 37-31 lead, four minutes into the final period.
The lead opened up midway through the half, as Slanovec side-stepped his defender for a three-pointer and
Mark Leonard dropped a trey of his own right after checking into the game. Misericordia led 53-42 with 10:34 to play.
The teams traded baskets for a while, until the Cougars put the game away on a Little three-pointer and two three-point plays by Del Prete. When Bieski flew to the rim to slam down Del Prete's miss with three minutes remaining, MU had its largest lead of the day, 75-53.
After the opening tip the seniors had helped MU jump out to a quick lead, as Williams found Johnson for an opening trey and Little and Del Prete added points. The Cougars opened with a 9-0 run that prompted the Manhattanville coach to substitute his entire starting lineup.
The Cougars went without a field goal for 6:07 before Del Prete's three-pointer put them up 15-6, with 10:30 remaining in the first half.
The Valiants went on a run and briefly took the lead at 22-20, before Johnson hit a pair of fast break baskets and Little went coast-to-coast to put MU up three at halftime.
Manhattanville was led by senior
Angelo Laroche, who dropped 17 points in his final collegiate game. Sophomore
Trevoy Pointer was also in double-figures with 10 points.
