The Misericordia University volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-8) sweep over Gwynedd-Mercy, Wednesday in the Anderson Center.
Kristin Hoffman led the Cougars with 10 kills, nine assists and four aces and
Cailin McCullion added 11 kills.
Shannon Kane had 14 receptions, 13 digs and two kills while
Krystal Burford added five kills and
Meghan Hotaling had 23 assists.
Kane and
Lexie Goble had aces to spark a 6-0 run as a Cougars took an 8-2 lead in the opening game.
Gwynedd-Mercy closed within 14-11, but
Kat LaBrie's kill started a 4-0 spurt to give MU an 18-11 lead.
Trailing 12-8 in the second game, the Cougars went on an 8-2 run after a timeout to take a 16-14 lead. Hoffman had a pair of kills and
Molly Harleman added an ace during the rally.
Hoffman's ace made it 22-16 and LaBrie finished off the game with a kill.
Hotaling started the final game with an ace and the Cougars raced to a 16-3 lead.
Up 19-6, Burford recorded two kills and Hotaling had another ace to make it 24-7 and McCullion's kill ended the match.
Misericordia will host Rosemont, Saturday at 1:00.
