The Misericordia University volleyball team opened its Freedom Conference schedule with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-11) sweep, Wednesday at Manhattanville.
Alexandra Goble led the MU attack with 11 kills and two aces.
Cailin McCullion added eight kills, four aces and 12 digs and
Kat LaBrie had seven kills.
Kristin Hoffman had six kills, 18 assists and 11 digs and
Krystal Burford had five kills.
Shannon Kane had 26 digs and
Meghan Hotaling had 15 assists.
MU broke a 7-7 tie in the opening game with a 5-1 spurt highlighted by kills by LaBrie, McCullion and Hoffman for a 13-8 lead.
After a pair of MU service errors made it 14-10, Goble and McCullion had back-to-back kills for a 16-10 lead.
Misericordia took control, 22-13, thanks to five straight service points from Hoffman.
Burford and Korgeski sandwiched kills around a McCullion ace to end the game.
Game two was much closer as MU led 20-18 after an attack error.
McCullion and LaBrie responded with kills for a 22-18 advantage and
Molly Harleman had a kill between a pair of Valiants errors to close the game.
MU took advantage of four straight Valiant errors to break a 5-5 tie enroute to a 13-6 lead in the finale.
Goble had three kills as the Cougars stretched the lead to 19-9 and LaBrie finished off two of the final five points.
The Cougars, 5-1, will play Dickinson and Scranton at Scranton, Saturday.
