The Misericordia University men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches as the Cougars defeated Alvernia 7-2 for their first victory of the year.
Junior
Fred Hockenbury and
Salvatore Saraniti won at first doubles 8-6.
Brett Ford and
Frank Nutt also won 8-6 at second doubles, while
Nate Powers and
Matt Erney were 8-4 winners at third doubles.
Hockenbury was victorious in the first singles spot, winning 6-2, 6-2. Erney won a perfect 6-0, 6-0 match at sixth singles.
The Cougars clinched the match with tight wins at fourth and fifth singles. Ford prevailed on a second set tie-breaker 6-3, 7-6 (11-9) while Powers won in three sets by a score of 6-7, 6-2, 10-8.
Misericordia is 1-1 and will host Lycoming on Sunday.
