Cougars Move to 3-0 in Freedom With 67-47 Win at Delaware Valley

MU scored the final 11 points of the first half as the Misericordia University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 in Freedom Conference play with a 67-47 victory, Saturday at Delaware Valley.

Four Cougars scored in double-figures, led by sophomore Tyann McDaniel's 17 points. Jesse Robinson had 16 points and seven rebounds, while Hannah Seely added 10 points and a team-high nine boards. Christine Marks also chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Up by five with four minutes to go until halftime, MU would go on an 11-0 run to take a 39-23 lead into the break.

Courtney Sykes started things off with a jumper, before a Katie Drayton bucket and a three-pointer from Robinson stretched the MU advantage to 35-23.

Free throws from McDaniel and Robinson and a last-second jumper from sophomore Kayla Sileo completed the Cougar run.

The Aggies had taken an early 9-5 lead, but the Cougars scored the next seven points, five of which came from Robinson.

The hosts briefly regained a 17-16 lead, 9:31 into the contest. Drayton put MU back on top with a jumper, and the Cougars would lead the rest of the way.

Seely took over in the second half, scoring eight points including two early baskets that put Misericordia up by 20 with 18:12 remaining.

MU's stretched the gap to 22 when Robinson hit a free throw with 9:45 to play.

Misericordia is now tied atop the Freedom Conference standings with King's. The Cougars are 7-5 overall and will travel to defending league champion DeSales, Wednesday.
