MU Volleyball Sweeps King's

The Misericordia University volleyball team swept King's, 3-0 (25-11, 25-19, 25-8), Tuesday night in the Anderson Center.

Cailin McCullion led Misericordia with 11 kills and three aces while Carly Zaklukiewicz had seven kills and five aces.

Krystal Burford added six kills and four blocks and Kristin Hoffman had 26 assists and five kills.

In the opener, MU broke a 5-5 tie on a slam and solo block by Burford.

After McCullion's kill just inside the back line, Hoffman and Burford combined for a block and 10-6 lead.

Zaklukiewicz ripped a shot down the middle and Nicole Korgeski followed with a kill before three King's errors put MU ahead, 16-6.

Tied 14-14 in the second set, the Cougars took the lead on a King's service error and Zaklukiewicz ended a long rally with a well-placed kill for a 16-14 lead.

King's came back with a block and an ace to get within 17-16, but Zaklukiewicz' kill from the rigth side made it 18-16 and three King's errors gave the Cougars a 21-17 lead.

McCullion and Burford had kills for a 23-19 advantage and the set ended on back-to-back errors by the Monarchs.

The Cougars built a 4-0 lead in the nightcap thanks to a pair of aces from Zaklukiewicz.

McCullion sandwiched a pair of kills around Burford's solo block for an 11-4 lead.

McCullion made it 14-5 with two aces and Zaklukiewicz and Burford both had kills to put MU up, 17-6.

Zaklukiewicz added two more aces fro a 22-8 lead and McCullion closed out the match with a kill and an ace.

Misericordia improved to 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the Freedom Conference.

The Cougars will play at the Lycoming Invitational, Friday and Saturday.
