Laura Roney had a goal and an assist as the Misericordia University women's soccer team erupted for three second-half goals to beat FDU-Florham, 3-0, in a Freedom Conference semifinal, Wednesday night at Mangelsdorf Field.
Misericordia will host the title match against Eastern, Saturday at 1:00.
Alyssa Mocion and
Megan Lannigan both added goals and
Erin Roberts had an assist as the Cougars improved to 13-3-2 while extending their unbeaten streak to 11 games and their winning streak to nine.
Jess Anderson made one save in goal for the shutout. Lauren Albrecht made 10 stops for the Devils who finished 8-12-1.
After a scoreless first half, Roberts headed down a Roney corner and Mocion turned in the box and drilled a shot that caromed off the left post for a 1-0 lead at 46:41.
Roney made it 2-0 when she dribbled through the Devils defense before cutting back at the top of the box and ripping a left-footed shot into the back of the net at 58:09.
Roney took another corner six minutes later and Lannigan headed it home for a 3-0 lead at 64:52.
Misericordia held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 6-1 edge in shots.
Erin McGreal gave Misericordia the first opportunity two minutes into the match when she took a nice feed from Lannigan and fired a shot from 10 yards out, but Albrecht made an easy save.
FDU's Samantha Messina had a breakaway attempt at 5:55, but MU's Kate Usher tracked back to clear the threat.
Roney played a ball to McGreal on the run at 15:00, but Albrecht came off her line to control the ball.
Kim Campfield had FDU's best scoring chance of the half when her shot sailed just high at 26:25.
Albrecht came off her line several times over the final 20 minutes to negate MU scoring chances, including stuffing a Helmstetter shots at 73:30.
Claire Donohue gave the Devils their best chance of the second half when she ripped a shot from 25 yards out, but Anderson was in position to preserve the shutout.
