Ethan Eichhorst had 22 points to lead five Misericordia players in double figures as the Misericordia University men's basketball team improved to 4-0 with an 84-71 win at Scranton, Tuesday.
Justin Grotevant had 20 points and
Matt Greene and
Steve Artzerounian both added 14 and
Jeff Slanovec had 10.
Eichhorst had a team-high six rebounds and Greene had seven assists.
MU led 42-41 at halftime and opened the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 52-43 lead.
Grotevant put MU ahead 44-41 with a jumper and Greene answered a Scranton bucket with a three-pointer for a 47-43 lead with 18:11 to go.
A Slanovec free throw gave the Cougars a 48-43 lead and Grotevant scored four straight points for a 52-43 lead with less than four minutes gone in the second half.
Scranton responded with a three-pointer, but Grotevant drained a three of his own for 55-46 MU advantage.
The Royals got within six, 55-49, with 14:34 left, but Grotevant's layup made it 57-49 and the Royals never got any closer.
After exchanging baskets throughout the opening minutes, Scranton built a 31-22 lead with 8:40 remaining in the first half.
Arzterounian's three-pointer and a Slanovec jumper got MU with 31-27, but Scranton answered to lead 37-30 with 4:21 left.
A layup from Grotevant and Greene's three-pointer cut the deficit to two, 37-35, with 2:40 to go.
Eichhorst tied it at 39-39 with just under a minute to play and Slanovec drained a three-pointer to close the half with MU up, 42-41.
Misericordia will open Freedom Conference action at Wilkes, November 30.
