MU Basketball Hosts FDU-Florham on Senior Day

2/11/2011 3:44:13 PM

The Misericordia University basketball teams host FDU-Florham tomorrow, and it will be the final regular season home game for four MU seniors- Courtney Sykes, Robbie Johnson, Frank Nutt and Scott Huddle.

Sykes is a team captain and the only senior on a Cougar women's squad (14-8, 8-3) that sits atop the Freedom Conference standings with three games left. She has started all 22 games in 2010-11, averaging 5.0 ppg.

In four seasons at Misericordia, Sykes has appeared in 102 games, including 72 starts. She averaged 7.5 ppg as a sophomore, and has scored 574 career points.

On the men's side, Johnson has played 103 games for Misericordia (13-9, 6-5), starting 74 of them. He has 1096 career points, placing him 10th in school history, and is averaging 15.6 ppg this season.

Nutt is a co-captain with Johnson, and has made 14 starts this year. He has made 46 career appearances and is also a member of the MU tennis team.

Huddle was a senior on the baseball team last spring, but returned as a graduate student to help a Cougar team that needed size. He has played in 19 games, and has quickly found a groove after several years away from the sport.

The FDU women (8-13, 4-7) have lost four straight but defeated Misericordia 58-46 on January 22. Junior Kandace Johnson was 5-of-8 from behind the arc in that game, finishing with 19 points.

Shaleah Alston (15.4 ppg) leads the Devils in scoring, while Shealyn Taggart (7.2 ppg, 8.5 rpg, 24 blocks) is a threat down low.

The FDU-Florham men (5-17, 3-8) are in last place but have several athletic big men who can cause problems, including Derek Hall (8.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg), Will Green (9.5 ppg, 7.6 rpg) and Ricky Fetske (8.5 ppg, 7.1 rpg).

Misericordia's men currently sit in a three-way tie for third place (with King's and Delaware Valley) and need to win tomorrow before finishing up with difficult road games at King's and Manhattanville.

The women tip-off at 1 PM, followed by the men at 3 PM.
