The Misericordia University men's basketball team fell 83-51 to Manhattanville in its season finale Saturday, but the Cougars have a Freedom Conference semifinal to prepare for, Wednesday at defending champion DeSales.

Freshman Matt Greene led the Cougars with 13 points, while classmate Robert Donohue added seven points. Junior Ethan Eichhorst had nine points and nine rebounds.

The Cougars struggled with their shooting in the first half, going just 7-of-26 (27%) from the field and falling behind 32-19.

Greene hit a three on MU's first possession, but Manhattanville soon opened up a 15-7 advantage. Six minutes in, Robbie Johnson up-faked and still made the shot despite having the defender land on his shoulders.

Jeff Slanovec's drive midway through the half made it 15-11 Manhattanville, but the Valiants tallied the next eight points before Eichhorst broke a scoreless run of 5:27 with a post-up jumper.

The hosts stretched their lead to 13 points at the end of the first period, despite a nice post by Eichhorst in the final minute.

The situation quickly worsened for the Cougars. An alley oop put Manhattanville up 16, 37-21. Greene hit a three-pointer three minutes into the half and found Slanovec with a backdoor cut a minute after that, but the Valiants soon pushed the gap over 20 points.

With 14 minutes to play Greene hit another three to make it 48-30, before the Valiants went on a 7-0 run to go ahead by 25. Johnson answered with a quick two, but the deficit was soon up to 27 points.

Misericordia concludes its regular season at 15-10, 8-6. The Cougars are the third seed in the Freedom Conference playoffs, and will travel to DeSales, Wednesday.
