The Misericordia University baseball team completed a perfect spring break trip by beating Lebanon Valley 9-4 for its eighth consecutive victory, Friday in Ft. Pierce, FL.
Over eight games in Florida, the Cougars totaled a staggering 88 runs on 108 hits.
Freshman
Ryan Cacchioli was 4-for-5 with two RBIs and scored three times. Senior
Nate Newman was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs.
Joe Tagliarini and Michael Impellittiere each went 2-for-4 and knocked in a run as well.
Once again, the Cougars' offense jumped on the board quickly. After Cacchioli reached on an error and stole third, he was singled in by
Andrew Tressa. Newman's double then brought in
Kenny Durling for a 2-0 MU lead.
LVC grabbed one in the first, but Misericordia scored four more times in the top of the second. Tagliarini doubled in
Jeff Slanovec and was brought home by Cacchioli's double. Cacchioli and Impellittiere also scored in the inning.
The Cougars' defense has been on point all week and Durling kept that going with an all-out diving catch to end the third inning.
Impellittiere doubled in Cacchioli in the fourth, but the Dutchmen answered with three runs in the bottom of the frame to make it 7-4. MU added a run in the fifth on Cacchioli's blooper to right.
Sophomore
Mike Pena came on in relief and started a 1-6-3 double play in the bottom of the fifth. MU grabbed an insurance run in the sixth inning when Newman's sacrifice fly scored Tressa.
The Misericordia bullpen of Pena, Newman and Matthew Karabin was fantastic, striking out six in five one-hit innings. Newman threw two perfect innings, and Karabin struck out the side in the ninth.
The Cougars are 8-2 overall and travel to Neumann on Tuesday.
