Kenny Durling had four hits and drove in four runs to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 17-8 non-league win at Penn State-Berks, Monday.
Durling had a double and a three-run homer while
Nate Newman added a three-run triple.
Ryan Cacchioli had two hits, including a double, and
Joe Tagliarini added two hits and
Andres Gonzalez had a two-run double.
Justin Shuleski scattered six hits over six innings while allowing just two earned runs to earn the win.
The Cougars used a five-run third inning to take a 7-0 lead and put the game away with a seven-run fifth inning.
MU went ahead 2-0 in the top of third when Durling led off with a single and
Jeff Slanovec reached on a two-out error. After Durling stole home on a double-steal,
Will Minderjahn singled to drive in Slanovec.
Cacchioli led off the third with a single down the left field line and
Dylan Mazzo singled before
Andrew Tressa was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Durling singled to make it 3-0 and Newman cleared the bases with a triple to right center for a 6-0 lead.
Newman came home on an error to make it 7-0.
The Lions tallied runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings to get within, 7-2, but MU responded with seven runs in the top of the fifth.
Newman led off with a walk, stole second and came around on Gonzalez' double to right center. Slanovec singled and Minderjahn walked to load the bases in front of Tagliarini's sacrifice fly made it 9-2.
The Cougars scored twice more on errors before Durling blasted a three-run homer to left for a 14-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Tagliarini singled and moved to third on Cacchioli's double. Mazzo and Tresso both followed with RBI-groundouts for a 16-2 lead.
Chris Tuttle led off the eighth and came around to score on a passed ball and a pair of groundouts.
MU, 9-3, will travel to DeSales for their Freedom opener, Friday.
