The Misericordia University volleyball team's rally came up just short in a tough 3-2 (19-25, 19-25, 25-22 25-20, 14-16) to Delaware Valley, Tuesday night at the Anderson Center.
Molly Harleman led MU with 16 kills and two aces while
Cailin McCullion added 14 kills and two aces.
Kat LaBrie had nine kills and
Krystal Burford added seven kills and four blocks.
After falling in an 0-2 hole with a pair of tough 25-19 losses, the Cougars rallied to take the next two games and held a 14-13 lead in the final set.
But, Del Val rallied to score the last points to secure the win.
LaBrie's kill gave the Cougars a 6-5 lead in the deciding game and
Kellyn Swanson's ace and a kill by Harleman put MU ahead 10-7.
The Aggies rallied to take a 12-11 lead before Burford's slam tied it up.
Harleman recorded an ace for a 13-12, but an MU attack error tied it up again.
MU went ahead 14-13 on an Aggies' service error, but the Cougars were held scoreless the rest of the way.
After dropping the first two games, the Cougars controlled most the third game before holding off a late Aggies rally.
Harleman and McCullion had back-to-back kills and Harelman's ace made it 4-1.
Another kill by Harleman put MU ahead, 10-6 and Burford, McCullion and Harleman had consecutive kills for a 13-7 lead.
LaBrie had two kills and Harleman added another for a 19-13 advantage.
Hoffman stopped a 5-0 Del Val run to give MU a 20-18 lead and back-to-back DV errors put MU ahead, 22-18.
Kills by Burford and Harleman put the Cougars up, 24-21, and the game ended on a Del Val service error.
Trailing 16-13 in the fourth game, LaBrie and McCullion had two kills in a 5-0 spurt to take an 18-16 lead.
After a Del Val point, McCullion's rip down the middle made it 19-17 and LaBrie answered an Aggies point with a kill for a 20-18 lead.
Hoffman and Burford combined for a block and a 21-18 lead.
The Aggies closed to within 22-20, but a service error and a Burford slam made it 24-20 and the game ended on a Del Val error to force a final game.
The Cougars are 3-4 (1-1) and will play Albright and PSU-Harrisburg, Saturday in Harrisburg.
