The Misericordia University women's basketball team suffered its first Freedom Conference loss, 58-57, Wednesday night at Eastern.
Hannah Seely led MU with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists and
Jesse Robinson added 16 points and six rebounds.
Down 39-29 with 14:26 remaining, the Cougars cut the deficit to two with just under seven minutes to play. Seely converted a three-point play and added a layup to make it 46-44 at 6:56.
With
Christine Marks fouled out, Seely carried the Cougars down the stretch as her layup got Misericordia within 52-49 with 2:57 left.
Seely followed with four straight free throws to make it 54-53 with 1:14 remaining.
After an Eastern bucket, Robinson added a pair of free throws to keep the Cougars within one, 56-55, with 25 seconds to go.
Eastern converted a pair of free throws to go ahead 58-55 and
Tyann McDaniel's runner with three seconds left provided the final margin.
The Cougars were 18-22 from the foul line, including eight of nine by Robinson, but shot just one of 18 from behind the arc.
MU is 4-7 overall and 2-1 in the Freedom Conference and will travel to FDU-Florham, Saturday.
