A cold-shooting effort from long range led to a 70-61 loss for the Misericordia University men's basketball team, Saturday afternoon at FDU-Florham.

Ethan Eichhorst led the Cougars with 15 points and seven rebounds and Joe Busacca added 14 points.

Steve Artzerounian had nine points and six rebounds and Jeff Slanovec added nine points.

The Cougars were just 3 of 19 from three point range while falling to 9-6 overall and 1-3 in the Freedom.

Misericordia took a 13-7 lead on a Cael Evans jumper midway through the first half, but the Devils went on a 7-0 spurt to tie it and eventually took a 21-16 lead.

Busacca's buzzer-beating three-pointer sent the Cougars into halftime down, 30-25.

The teams traded baskets throughout much of the second half and MU trailed 48-43 with 7:40 remaining after another bucket by Busacca.

FDU stretched the lead to 62-50 with 1:39 to play before five points from Eichhorst got the Cougars within 64-57 with under a minute to go.

MU will host DeSales, Wednesday at 8:00.
