Cougars Basketball to Face the Devils

The Misericordia University men's and women's basketball teams will participate in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' Coaches vs. Cancer “Suits and Sneakers” when they host FDU-Florham in a Freedom Conference match-up, Saturday at the Anderson Center.

The MU women are 9-8 (5-2) after a 51-44 loss to conference leading King's, Wednesday.

With two three-point buckets, Tyann McDaniel became MU's all-time leader in three-point field goals made (164), passing Colleen Corrigan's mark of 163.  Senior Christine Marks recently became the Cougars all-time leading scorer surpassing Missy Longhi's mark of 1,365.  She also passed Sandy Olm's rebounding mark of 756 and now has a career total of 786.

The Cougars come into the game with the fourth-ranked scoring offense in the Freedom, averaging 66.8 ppg while FDU's defense is fourth in the Freedom allowing 64.9ppg.  The Devils have the second-leading scoring offense, averaging 65.1 ppg.  They will clash with MU's second-ranked defense which allows 56.7 ppg.

Marks enters the game as the second-leading scorer in the conference, averaging 20.7 ppg and she is the leading rebounder with 10.3 rpg.  FDU has the fourth-leading scorer in Kyra Dayon, averaging 15.4 ppg.

The MU men are coming off a thrilling 62-60 victory over King's, Wednesday.  Senior Ethan Eichhorst made a buzzer-beating layup to give head coach Trevor Woodruff his 100th win.  With the win, the Cougars improved to 12-6 (4-3) and moved into a tie for third in the Freedom with FDU (9-9, 4-3).

The Cougars are ranked fifth in the nation in three-point fg%, shooting 41.3% from behind the arc.  They come into the game with the second-ranked defense in the conference, allowing 64.1 ppg while the Devils are third, allowing 65.3 ppg. 

This game brings a match-up between two top-five scorers in the conference.  MU's Eichhorst is the second-leading scorer in the conference (18.1 ppg) while FDU's Adam Katz (14.7 ppg) is ranked fifth.
