The Misericordia University volleyball team kept its post-season hopes alive with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-18) sweep over FDU-Florham, Tuesday night at the Anderson Center.
Cailin McCullion led the Cougars with 12 kills while
Shelby Brochetti and Kat LaBrie added eight kills each.
Samantha Baro added six kills and
Lexi Giannone had four aces while Brochetti added three aces.
Nicole Korgeski had 24 assists as the Cougars improved to 14-11 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Conference.
MU jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opener thanks to kills by LaBrie and
Meghan Stack.
After FDU rallied to take a 12-9 lead, Brochetti and LaBrie both had kills and McCullion added a pair, including a smash inside the back line, to tie it at 13.
McCullion put MU ahead 15-14 with a kill from the right side and Baro's solo block made it 16-14.
Baro split the FDU defense to make it 18-15 and Giannone followed with back-to-back aces to make it 20-15.
Brochetti had two kills to stretch the lead to 24-21 and the set end on an FDU ball handling error.
Brochetti opened the second set with two kills and an ace and McCullion had consecutive kills for a 7-2 lead.
Baro and Korgeski combined for a block and an 11-3 lead and Baro, Korgeski and Brochetti had consecutive kills to make it 14-6.
Brochetti's ace gave MU a 20-11 lead and McCullion's kill made it 22-14.
Giannone followed with another ace and the Devils closed the set with two errors.
In the nightcap, LaBrie sandwich a pair of kills around an ace by Brochetti for a 6-1 lead.
FDU rallied with three straight aces to go in front 12-10.
Brochetti tied it with back-to-back kills and the Cougars took the lead for good on an FDU error.
After FDU closed to within 20-14, McCullion answered with three kills before closing out the match with an ace.
The Cougars will host Lycoming, Thursday at 7:00.
