McCullion Reaches 1,000 Kills, Cougars Sweep Lyco

Cailin McCullion recorded her 1,000th career kill to lead the Misericordia University volleyball team to an impressive 3-0 sweep over Lycoming (25-20, 25-13, 25-20), Thursday night at the Anderson Center.

McCullion had a team-high 15 kills and added two aces as the Cougars improved to 15-11.

Shelby Brochetti added 10 kills and three aces while Nicole Korgeski had 25 assists.

Kellyn Swanson had three aces and a team-high 14 digs.




With one of their most complete efforts of the season, the Cougars avenged a pair of losses to Lycoming two weeks ago.

Brochetti opened the match with a smash through a pair of blockers, but Lycoming answered with a kill and a pair of aces for a 3-1 lead.

McCullion tied with back-to-back kills.

Brochetti and Samantha Baro combined for four points to give the Cougars an 11-7 lead.

After two Lycoming errors, Swanson's ace put MU up, 14-8.

McCullion's smash off a Lycoming block attempt made it 17-12, but the Warriors scored three straight points to make it 17-15.

McCullion responded with a cross-court kill and her dink made it 19-15. 

McCullion's smash from the right side made it 20-16 and Brochetti had consecutive kills for a 22-16 lead.

Following a Lyco ball handling error, Korgeski's push inside the right sideline made it 24-19 and Brochetti's drive from the middle ended the set.

LaBrie opened the second set with a big kill and Brochetti and McCullion added kills as MU took a 4-2 lead.

Up 7-4, McCullion sandwiched two aces around a Lycoming error for a 10-4 lead.

Baro added a dink and Swanson followed with an ace for a 13-5 MU advantage.

Meghan Stack's kill made it 15-8 and Brochetti had two aces to put MU up, 18-8.

LaBrie and Stack combined for a block and Brochetti added another ace for a 21-8 lead.

McCullion had four kills for the Cougars to clinch a 25-13 lead.

The teams battled back-and-forth throughout the third set with Korgeski's solo block and Lexi Giannone's ace giving MU a 17-16 lead.

After a Lycoming block, McCullion tied it again with her 1,000 kill with a smash down the middle.

Brochetti's push down the left side gave MU a 19-18 lead and the Cougars went ahead for good, 20-19, on a Lycoming service error.

LaBrie hit through a double-block and added a solo block of her own for a 23-19 lead.

Lycoming cut it to 24-20, but LaBrie closed out the match with a kill.

MU will host Scranton and Arcadia, Saturday.
