Sophomores AJ Limongelli and Dave McLean finished back-to-back to earn All-MAC honors, leading the Misericordia University men's cross country team to a sixth place finish at the 2012 MAC Championships held at MU's Letterkenny Fields on Saturday afternoon.
“We knew that coming into today we could realistically finish anywhere between fourth and sixth on the men's side,” said MU head coach
Chris Wadas. “While we ended up on the lower end of that, I'm still very pleased with how our men competed today.”
Limongelli finished 14
th overall (27:19.65) and McLean 15
th (27:28.50) out of 165 runners as both men earned All-MAC Second Team honors.
“AJ and Dave both had fantastic races for us today in earning All-MAC honors,” said Wadas. “They continue to improve and learn better how to race with each meet they compete.”
Junior
Josh Krall was MU's third finisher, placing 33
rd overall (28:21.57). Freshman
Mikael Hause (28:29.32, 37
th) and junior
Zach Bottone (29:48.57, 73
rd) comprised the other two counting scores for the Cougars.
“Josh had another strong race for us to finish in our third spot,” said Wadas. “
Mikael Hause had a bit of a rough start but came on very well in the second half of the race in his first MAC Championship meet.”
Elizabethtown won the men's team championship with 28 points, including five men in the top ten, while DeSales' Nate Noll was the men's individual champion, finishing the 8K course in 26:20.91.
The MU Men will return to action on November 10
th, travelling to Dickinson for the 2012 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Meet.
“I think that we're on pace to have a good showing at regionals,” said Wadas. “We're a young team, and I think that today's race was a great big-situation experience for some of our younger runners. All that I can ask is that they work hard and continue to improve, and they've been answering that call.”
