The Misericordia University women's soccer team will host FDU-Florham in the Freedom Conference semifinals, Friday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m. Mangelsdorf Field.
Misericordia is the top seed after finishing the regular season at 15-2-1 overall and 7-0 in the Freedom Conference.
FDU-Florham is seeded fourth after rallying from a two goal deficit with less than five minutes to play in their regular season finale at DeSales to finish 4-3 in the Freedom.
Second-seeded Wilkes will host Eastern in Thursday's other semi and the winners will meet for the Freedom title, Sunday. The Freedom champion will receive and automatic berth to the NCAA Division III Championships.
The Cougars of Head Coach
Mark Stauffer were perfect in the Freedom, including a 3-0 win over FDU-Florham a month ago.
MU is led by the dynamic senior duo of
Sam Helmstetter and
Laura Roney who have combined for nearly 80 points this season.
Helmstetter leads the Cougars in scoring with 39 points (16g, 7a) while Roney is second with 34 points (12g, 10a).
Helmstetter's 39 points are the third-highest single-season total in school history and she is third in career scoring with 116 points.
Roney is tied for fourth with 98 career points and is tied with Helmstetter for the school assists record with 32.
Megan Lannigan (7g, 7a) adds 21 points while
Meghan Antrim and
Erin McGreal both have 10 goals.
Nikki Hensel tied Roney for the team lead with 10 assists.
Led by freshman goalie
Maureen Ciccosanti, the MU defense has posted eight shutouts while allowing just .60 goals per game.
The Devils are led by Clair Donahue's 27 points (10g, 7a).
