Scranton Men Rally Past Cougars

Box Score The Misericordia University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season as the University of Scranton rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit for a 60-57 win, Tuesday night at the Anderson Center.

Steve Artzerounian led the Cougars with 19 points and eight rebounds while Matt Greene added 12 points.

Scranton's Ross Danzig had a game-high 24 points.

Justin Grotevant had six points, six rebounds and seven assists for the Cougars.

The Cougars led 35-22 at halftime, but Scranton opened the second half with an 18-4 run to take a 40-39 lead with just under 13 minutes remaining.

After Greene drained a three-pointer to forge a 46-46 tie, the Royals took their biggest lead of the night, 51-46, with 8:31 to go.  Artzerounian scored four of the next five straight points to tie it, 51-51, with 6:23 left.

Scranton went ahead 53-51and a Joe Busacca free throw got MU within one and Greene buried another try to put the Cougars in front, 55-53, with 4:35 remaining.

The Royals scored four straight for a 57-55 lead and Artzerounian's layup off a nice feed from Steve Ware made it 57-57 with 2:13 left.

Scranton pulled ahead 59-57 with just under two minutes to go and added a free throw to make it 60-57 with 19 seconds remaining.

Misericordia missed a game-tying three-pointer with four seconds to play and Scranton tipped away the rebound.

The Cougars gradually built a lead in the first half and used a 9-0 run to go ahead 35-19 with just over a minute to play in the period.

Greene's jumper just inside the arc started the run and Travis Buckner's three-pointer from the left corner made it 29-19.

Busacca's give-and-go with Artzerounian put MU ahead, 31-19 and Artzerounian's reverse layup gave the Cougars a 33-19 advantage.

Grotevant followed with a reverse layup for a 35-19 lead before Scranton made a three-pointer to close the half.

Misericordia will host travel to Centenary, Saturday.
