Box Score The Misericordia University women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, 67-57, to Marywood, Monday night at the Anderson Center.
Lauren Smicherko led Misericordia with 16 points and six rebounds and
Tyann McDaniel added 12 points.
Marywood led 34-20 at halftime and stretched the lead to 18 early in the second half.
Nikki Baro made a baseline jumper and followed with a free throw before Smicherko's short jumper got MU with nine, 49-40.
Hannah Seely's driving layup cut the deficit to 49-42 with 8:37 remaining.
Marywood answered with five straight points to take a 56-44 lead with 6:13 to play.
Smicherko,
Caitlin Kessler and
Lauren Oertner combined for seven free throws in less than a minute to get Misericordia with six, 58-52, with 4:15 left.
After a Marywood bucket, Kessler sank a pair of free throws to stay within six, 60-54, with 3:13 to go.
Trailing 63-57, McDaniel buried a three-pointer at 1:37, but the Cougars never got any closer.
Marywood improved to 3-3 while Misericordia fell to 5-1.
